Scripture: “The fear of the LORD is hatred of evil.” Proverbs 8:13

The fear of the Lord doesn’t simply keep us from sin—it changes what we love.

Before Christ, we often hated the consequences of sin. We feared getting caught, facing embarrassment, or dealing with brokenness. But as we behold God’s holiness and His love displayed on the cross, something begins to change. We start hating the sin itself because we see what it cost our Savior.

The cross reveals three powerful truths at once: God is perfectly holy, sin is exceedingly sinful, and God’s love is beyond comprehension.

Religion asks, “How close can I get to sin without crossing the line?” But the fear of the Lord asks, “How close can I get to Jesus?”

Like Joseph, we choose integrity even when no one else is watching, not because we’re protecting our reputation, but because we’re protecting our relationship with God.

1. Do you mostly avoid sin because of its consequences, or because you love Jesus?

2. Where is God inviting you to choose holiness today?

Prayer:

Jesus, thank You for bearing my sin on the cross. Help me love what You love and hate what grieves Your heart. May my life reflect my love for You in both public and private moments. Amen.

Action Step:

Identify one temptation you regularly face. Instead of simply resisting it, replace it with something that draws you closer to Christ—worship, Scripture, prayer, or serving someone.
