Take the High Ground
Scripture:
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”
Ephesians 6:10
Devotional:
As Pastor Steve shared on Sunday, in any battle, those who hold the high ground have the advantage. They see clearly, move strategically, and stand firmly. Spiritually, the same is true. The high ground isn’t about being elevated above others - it’s about being aligned with God. “Being strong in the Lord” doesn’t mean striving to prove your strength or knowledge. It means being positioned in His presence, depending on His might rather than your own.
We can get caught up in techniques, systems, or strategies for spiritual victory, but power without presence leads to pride. The battle is not won by how much we know, but by how well we know Him. Strength in the Lord begins not with force, but with surrender.
Reflection Questions:
1. What areas of your life are you still trying to fight in your own strength?
2. How can you reposition yourself to stand on the “high ground” - closer to God’s perspective?
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to stand where You stand. When I’m tempted to fight in my own strength, remind me that true victory comes from Your power and presence. Help me to rise above distraction and see the battle from Your view. Amen.
Action Step:
Find a quiet spot - outside, in your car, or at home - and physically change your position to represent taking the high ground (kneel, stand on a hill, or lift your hands). Out loud, surrender one battle you’ve been fighting on your own and declare that you’re standing in God’s strength instead of your own.
