Shield of Faith: Defend Your Focus
Scripture:
“This is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.”
1 John 5:4
Devotional:
As Zech shared in his Sunday message, the Roman shield was large enough to cover the whole body and soaked in water to extinguish flaming arrows. Faith does the same - it defends your focus when doubts or fear come flying. You can’t stop the arrows, but you can choose what covers you.
Faith doesn’t mean pretending the fire isn’t there—it means trusting that God’s promise will outlast the flames. When you raise your shield, you declare, “God, I still believe.” Every fiery dart loses its power when it hits faith that’s been soaked in His Word.
Reflective Questions:
1. What fiery arrows have been coming at me lately?
2. Am I finding my faith in God’s Word daily?
3. Where do I need to declare, “I still believe”?
Prayer:
God, strengthen my faith today. Help me to trust You when I can’t see the outcome. Remind me that Your faithfulness is my shield. Amen.
Action Step:
Write one promise from Scripture and save it to your phone lock screen or post it on your mirror this week. Memorize it and let it remind you to lift your shield when doubt comes.
