Faith Is Built In Prayer

Scripture:

“Then Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.” Luke 18:1

We cannot expect to live a life full of faith while living a life empty of prayer.

Prayer isn’t simply where we bring God our list of needs. Prayer is where relationship is built. It’s where we learn His heart, remember His character, surrender our will, and become confident in who He is.

In Luke 18, Jesus tells the story of the persistent widow to teach His disciples to always pray and not give up. There will be moments when we’ve prayed and haven’t seen an answer yet. Moments when circumstances seem unchanged. Moments when it would be easier to stop asking and start doubting.

But persistent prayer says, “Even when I haven’t seen it yet, I still believe God is who He says He is.” Faith isn’t pretending the situation isn’t difficult. Faith is knowing God well enough that the situation doesn’t get the final word.

If our prayer life becomes inactive, our faith will eventually become weak because we are trying to trust Someone we’re no longer consistently spending time with.

Reflect:

Has prayer become my first response, or something I turn to only when I’ve exhausted every other option?

Prayer:

Lord, teach me to pray and not give up. Draw me back into a deeper relationship with You. When answers seem delayed, keep my heart from becoming discouraged. Remind me of who You are and strengthen my faith as I spend time in Your presence. Amen.
