Stay Alert, Stay Sober
Scripture:
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
Devotional:
The enemy rarely announces his arrival - he prowls. His attacks are subtle: a tempting thought, a discouraging word, a distraction that feels harmless. That’s why Peter warns us to stay alert and sober-minded. Spiritual alertness is more than paranoia; it’s awareness rooted in peace.
When you live surrendered to God, you can be aware without being afraid. You start noticing patterns - how the enemy targets your weak spots, isolates you, or feeds old wounds. The Spirit helps you discern when something “off” is happening, not to scare you, but to equip you to stand firm.
Reflection Questions:
1. What distractions or habits have dulled my spiritual awareness?
2. When do I feel most vulnerable to attack or temptation?
3. How can I invite the Holy Spirit to sharpen my discernment daily?
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, make me alert but not anxious. Help me to sense Your leading and recognize the enemy’s schemes before they take root. Guard my thoughts, my emotions, and my focus. Amen.
Action Step:
Identify your open doors. Write down the things that easily pull you away from God - a habit, relationship, or mindset - and surrender them in prayer.
