Trim The Wick
Scripture:
“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.”
Matthew 25:7
Devotional
Every flame builds residue. Every wick burns uneven. And every believer accumulates things that make the light smoky instead of steady.
Trimming the wick isn’t punishment - it’s preparation. It’s God removing what keeps your life burning messy:
• offense
• pride
• laziness
• distraction
• compromise
• old attitudes
• unhealthy rhythms
The wise virgins didn’t wait for someone to fix them. They checked their own lamps. They trimmed their own wicks. They took ownership of their spiritual condition.
Cutting hurts a little, but it creates clarity. It removes the buildup. It allows the flame to burn brighter, cleaner, steadier.
Reflective Questions:
1. What needs trimming in my life - habits, thought patterns, attitudes?
2. What’s making my flame smoky instead of bright?
3. Am I willing to let God cut what’s hurting my shine?
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, trim the buildup off my life. Remove what dims me. Reset my heart so I can burn clean and steady again. Amen.
Action Step:
Ask God: “What needs trimming today?” Write down the first thing He shows you.
