Discipline Creates Room For God

Jun 10, 2026

Scripture: Luke 9:23

“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”

Devotional

Notice that Jesus said daily.

Not weekly. Not occasionally. Daily.

Following Jesus isn’t a one-time decision; it’s a daily surrender. Every day we choose whether we’ll live according to our feelings or according to our faith.

Discipline isn’t punishment—it’s training. Just like athletes train for a race, disciples develop habits that help them stay close to Jesus.

Reading Scripture. Praying. Serving others. Gathering with believers. These practices don’t earn God’s love, but they position us to grow deeper in our relationship with Him.

The goal isn’t checking spiritual boxes. The goal is becoming more like Christ.

Reflection Questions

1. Which spiritual discipline has been hardest for me to maintain?

2. How can I create more intentional space for God this week?

Prayer

Jesus, teach me to follow You daily. Help me build habits that draw me closer to You and strengthen my faith. Let my life reflect a genuine commitment to walking with You. Amen.

Action Step

Set aside a specific time tomorrow for prayer and Scripture reading and protect it like an important appointment.
