Wisdom From Above

Scripture: James 3:17-18

“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.”

Devotional:

There is a difference between being informed and being wise. We can know a lot of things, have strong opinions, and even be right about certain matters, but still miss the heart of God if we are not walking in His wisdom.

James reminds us that the wisdom from heaven has a certain fruit. It is pure, peace-loving, considerate, merciful, and sincere. Godly wisdom does not push us to prove ourselves, elevate ourselves, or win every argument. It teaches us how to live in a way that reflects Jesus.

In a world that moves quickly with trends, opinions, and pressure to keep up, the Holy Spirit helps us slow down and listen for what God is saying. His wisdom teaches us not only what to do, but when, where, why, and how to do it.

Being clothed in power does not mean we move without thought or humility. It means we are led by the Spirit and shaped by the wisdom of God. When His wisdom is guiding us, our lives begin to produce peace, mercy, and good fruit that blesses the people around us.

Reflective Questions:

1. Where have I been relying more on my own understanding than God’s wisdom?

2. Does the way I speak and make decisions reflect peace, mercy, and humility?

3. What is one area where I need to ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom today?

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, teach me to recognize the wisdom that comes from You. Help me not to be led by pride, pressure, or the opinions around me. Shape my heart so that my life produces peace, mercy, and good fruit. Guide me in what to do, how to do it, and when to move. Amen.

Action Step:

Before making a decision today, pause and pray: “Holy Spirit, give me wisdom that reflects Jesus.”
