Gifts For The Common Good

Jun 2, 2026

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:4-7

“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them… Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.”

Devotional:

The Holy Spirit gives gifts, but those gifts were never meant to be used for selfish gain, status, or attention. They are given for the common good — to build up the body, strengthen the church, and help others encounter Jesus.

It can be easy to compare gifts and wonder why someone else seems more visible, confident, or gifted. But Paul reminds us that there are different gifts, different ways of serving, and different ways God works through His people. The source is still the same Spirit.

Your gift matters, even if it looks different from someone else’s. Encouragement, prayer, leadership, hospitality, generosity, service, discernment - when surrendered to God, each gift becomes a way for His love and power to reach others.

Being clothed in power means we no longer live only for ourselves. The question becomes less about “How does this make me look?” and more about “How can this help someone see Jesus?”

Reflective Questions:

1. What gifts has the Holy Spirit placed in my life?

2. Am I using those gifts to serve others or to seek approval?

3. Who can I encourage, serve, or build up with what God has given me?

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, thank You for the gifts You have given me. Help me not to compare, hide, or misuse what You have placed in me. Teach me to serve with humility and love, so my life points people back to Jesus. Amen.

Action Step:

Use one gift intentionally today to bless someone else without needing recognition.
