Releasing What We Love

Scripture: Genesis 22:12

“Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”

Devotional:

Abraham’s story with Isaac is a picture of deep trust. Isaac was not just something Abraham loved, he was the promise Abraham had waited for. Yet when God asked Abraham to surrender him, Abraham obeyed.

Sometimes trusting God means releasing something we deeply love: a dream, role, season, relationship, comfort, or plan. It does not always mean God is taking it away forever, but it does reveal whether our hands are open before Him.

The sermon reminded us that following God’s calling can sometimes involve a passing of the baton. There are seasons where God asks us to trust Him enough to let go, make room, or release something into His hands.

Being clothed in power means the Holy Spirit strengthens us to obey, even when surrender feels costly. When God asks for something, it is never because He is careless with our hearts. He is teaching us to trust Him as the true source.

Reflective Questions:

1. Is there anything I am holding tightly that God may be asking me to surrender?

2. Do I trust God’s calling even when it requires change?

3. What would it look like for me to open my hands to God today?

Prayer:

Lord, help me trust You with what I love. Give me courage to surrender what You are asking for, even when it feels difficult. Remind me that You are faithful, kind, and worthy of my obedience. Amen.

Action Step:

Write down one thing you are holding tightly, then pray over it and surrender it to God honestly.
