Divided Loyalty
Key Scripture
Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters.”
awaken sarah saturday night
Devotional
Sarah asked a hard question: Where is your loyalty? James wasn’t writing to unbelievers. He was writing to Christians whose loyalties were split. They loved God, but they also loved control. Comfort. Status. Safety. And James calls that double-minded.
Divided loyalty isn’t always dramatic sin. Sometimes it’s fear. Sometimes laziness. Sometimes subtle compromise. It’s saying, “God, I trust You… except here.” Awakening requires honesty about what we’re still gripping. Because you cannot reach for Him if your hands are full.
The invitation isn’t to add more God to your life. It’s to drop the other master.
Reflect
1. What am I holding that competes with my devotion to God?
2. Where do I trust myself more than Him?
3. Is fear, sin, or laziness quietly dividing my heart?
Prayer
Father, expose any divided loyalty in me. I don’t want to serve two masters. If I’ve been holding onto fear or control, help me release it. Cleanse my heart and make my devotion undivided.
Action Step
Physically open your hands while you pray today. Name what you’re releasing out loud.
