Not A Glance
Key Scripture:
Hebrews 12:2 “Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith…”
Devotional:
The phrase “fixing our eyes” comes from the Greek word aphorao: to turn the eyes away from other things and focus intently on one thing. It’s not a casual look. It’s exclusive attention.
Many of us glance at God. We check in with Him. We acknowledge Him. But Hebrews calls us to something deeper, to turn our eyes away from everything else and lock them onto Jesus. He is not just inspiration. He is the pioneer, the One who goes first.
If He is the pioneer, we are not leading. We are following.
This means in every circumstance, confusion, success, breakthrough, delay, we don’t look at people first. We don’t look at formulas first. We don’t look at what worked for someone else. We look at Him.
Reflect:
1. Do I casually glance at God, or do I fix my eyes on Him?
2. What do I instinctively look to first in pressure?
3. Is Jesus truly leading my life, or am I asking Him to bless my plans?
Prayer:
Jesus, I don’t want a surface-level focus. Turn my eyes away from distractions. Teach me what it means to truly fix my gaze on You.
Action Step:
Before making any decision today, small or big, pause and ask, “Lord, what are You saying?”
