In The Potter’s Hands

Scripture: Jeremiah 18:6

“Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand.”

A vessel doesn’t decide what it will become. The potter does. Jeremiah watched a potter working with clay, and when the vessel became ruined in his hands, the potter didn’t throw it away. He reshaped it according to what he knew it needed to become.

That picture reminds us of our relationship with God. He is the Potter. We are the clay.

Sometimes we want God to use us, but we also want to determine how He uses us. We want to choose the shape, the purpose, the timing, and the outcome.

But becoming useful begins with surrender.

God sees what we cannot see. He knows what needs to be formed, removed, strengthened, or reshaped in us so that we can fulfill His purpose.

The question isn’t simply, “God, will You use me?”

It is also, “God, will I let You shape me?”

Application:

Consider an area of life where you may be resisting God’s shaping. Instead of asking God to make your plans work, surrender that area back into the Potter’s hands today.

Prayer:

Father, You are the Potter and we are the clay. Shape us according to Your will. Remove what does not belong and form us into vessels that can be used for Your purpose. Amen.
