Run To Finish, Not Just To Start
Key Scripture:
Hebrews 12:1–2 “Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.”
Devotional:
Following Jesus isn’t a sprint. It’s a race marked out for us - specific, intentional, and often stretching. The writer of Hebrews doesn’t just say “run.” He says throw off what hinders you and then run with endurance. That means some things cannot come with you.
Revival sounds exciting. But revival requires stamina. When you decide to follow Jesus seriously (not casually) things start surfacing. Old habits, wounds, mindsets. The race exposes what’s weighing you down. And that’s not punishment, it’s preparation. God isn’t trying to shame you. He’s training you.
Reflect:
1. What feels heavy in my walk right now?
2. What might be hindering me, even if it’s not obvious sin?
3. Am I running to finish, or just running when it feels good?
Prayer:
Lord, I don’t want to just start strong, I want to finish well. Show me what’s weighing me down. Give me courage to let go of what hinders me. Train my heart to endure, not quit.
Action Step:
Write down one thing you know has been slowing you spiritually. Pray over it specifically today.
