Stay Close

Apr 7, 2026

Scripture:

John 20:14–16

Devotional:

Mary was standing face to face with Jesus and didn’t recognize Him. Not because He wasn’t there, but because she was overwhelmed, grieving, and expecting something different.

How often does that happen to us? Jesus is present, moving, speaking… but we’re so caught in our expectations, disappointments, or distractions that we miss Him.

Everything changed for Mary when Jesus called her by name. That’s what closeness does. It shifts recognition. It cuts through confusion. It makes things personal again.

After resurrection, Jesus doesn’t distance Himself. He draws near. The question is, are we close enough to recognize His voice?

Reflective Questions:

1. Where might I be overlooking God’s presence in my life right now?

2. What distractions are keeping me from recognizing His voice?

3. When was the last time I slowed down enough to just be with Him?

Prayer:

Jesus, help me recognize You. Quiet the noise in my life so I can hear Your voice clearly. Draw me close again, not just in moments of need, but in daily relationship. I want to know You, not just know about You.

Action Step:

Take 10 uninterrupted minutes today to sit with God, no agenda, just listening.
