Zeal Looks Like Something

Jul 22, 2025

Scripture:

Romans 12:11

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”

Devotional:

To be “hot” in spirit means to burn with a holy fire. It’s not hype—it’s devotion marked by surrender. Fervor isn’t about volume or energy; it’s a heart that keeps saying yes to Jesus in the private and public. God isn’t looking for momentary excitement—He’s looking for consistent obedience rooted in love.

Your zeal doesn’t have to look like someone else’s. But it should look like something. Is your passion evident in the way you show up for others, serve your church, or pursue Jesus when no one’s watching? The fire of the Spirit burns brightest in hearts that stay close to the altar.

Questions:

1. Where have I mistaken hype for true zeal?

2. What does godly fervor look like in my personality and calling?

3. Who in my life models healthy spiritual fire?

Prayer:

Lord, I want my life to burn in a way that brings You joy. Let my passion be pure—not driven by performance or people-pleasing, but rooted in love. Show me what zeal looks like in the everyday—at home, in my church, in my calling. Help me tend the fire when I feel tired, and teach me to serve You with gladness. Let my life be a flame that leads others to You.

Action Step:

Choose one place where you've grown passive (church, home, relationships). Reignite it today. Sign up to serve, initiate the hard conversation, show up early, bring your full heart. Don’t wait for a sign—be the spark.
