When You Feel Distant

Apr 29, 2026

Scripture:

“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30

Devotional:

Sometimes we say, “I feel far from God,” like it happened out of nowhere. But Scripture gives us language for that feeling: grief.

The Holy Spirit doesn’t disappear, but our awareness of Him can be affected. Not because He moves away, but because something in the relationship has shifted.

Grieving the Spirit isn’t about one mistake. It’s about repeatedly choosing things that create distance instead of closeness.

The good news is this: what created distance can also be restored through honesty and turning back.

Reflect:

1. Have I been feeling distant from God lately?

2. Is there anything I’ve been avoiding or ignoring spiritually?

3. What would it look like to be honest with God today?

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, I don’t want distance between us. Show me anything in my life that has created separation, and give me the humility to turn back to You.

Action Step:

Take a few minutes to honestly talk to God about where you feel distant—no filtering.
