Who Sent The Locusts?

Aug 12, 2025

Scripture:

Joel 2:12–13

”Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart… for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love…”

It’s uncomfortable to admit that sometimes, the hard seasons could be God’s doing. In Joel’s time, the locusts came because of the people’s choices - not random bad luck. God allowed it to get their attention. That’s hard to hear, but it’s actually mercy. Because when He allows loss, He’s also positioning us for revival.

When we believe every hardship is just “the enemy,” we miss the chance to ask, “Lord, what are You showing me here?” God doesn’t destroy to punish - He prunes to bring life. The locusts were a reset button for Israel.

Reflection Questions:

1. Do I see my challenges as random, or could God be using them to shape me?

2. Am I more focused on the pain of loss than the possibility of restoration?

3. What would “returning with all my heart” look like right now?

Prayer:

God, help me to see my trials through Your eyes. If You’ve allowed something to strip away comfort, help me trust that You’re making room for something greater. I choose to return to You fully. Amen.

Action Step: Instead of asking “why me?” today, ask “what are You forming in me, Lord?”
