What Are You Carrying Forward

Jan 21, 2026

Scripture: Genesis 31:19

Devotional:

Rachel left the house but carried the idols. It’s possible to move forward physically while still holding onto misplaced trust internally. Idols aren’t always sinful things—they’re anything we rely on more than God.

Comfort, control, approval, routine, even familiar pain can quietly replace trust in God. The problem isn’t leaving—it’s what we bring with us. God’s promises require space, and idols take up room that only He should occupy.

This fast is an invitation to examine what we’re secretly holding onto. God isn’t trying to take from us—He’s trying to free us.

Reflection Questions:

1. What do I rely on for security besides God?

2. What am I afraid of losing if I fully obey Him?

3. What might God be asking me to leave behind?

Prayer:

God, reveal anything in my heart that doesn’t belong in this next season. I don’t want to carry what You never asked me to keep. Help me trust You fully and release every false source of security. I choose freedom over familiarity. Amen.

Action Step:

Fast something today that represents control or comfort, and replace it with prayer.
