The Spirit of God in Creation
READING:
- Genesis 1:1–2
- Psalm 104:30
DEVOTIONAL:
In the beginning, when the earth was formless and empty, the Spirit of God hovered over the waters—poised, present, and powerful. This quiet, creative presence of the Spirit wasn't distant or passive—it was preparing to move, to breathe life into the void.
Psalm 104:30 echoes this, describing how God sends forth His Spirit and creation is renewed. From the very start, the Holy Spirit has been an agent of life, order, creativity, and beauty.
And here’s the wonder of it all: That same Spirit now dwells within you.
The Spirit who shaped galaxies, filled oceans, and painted sunsets is the one who hovers over the chaos of your heart and brings light to dark places.
In a world that often feels rushed and disordered, we’re invited to pause and recognize the Spirit's steady presence—hovering, forming, renewing. He still creates, still breathes life, and still makes all things new.
QUESTIONS:
1. Are there any areas of my life that feel formless, empty, or chaotic right now? What would it look like for me to invite the Holy Spirit to "hover" there?
2. Do I trust that the Spirit wants to bring beauty and order into my life, even in the unseen and slow moments?
3. When was the last time I paused long enough to recognize God’s creativity around me—and in me? How might my outlook change if I lived fully aware that the same Spirit who created the world now lives within me?
PRAYER:
Holy Spirit, Thank You for being present from the beginning—hovering over the waters, breathing life into creation, and making beauty out of chaos. I invite You into the spaces of my life that feel empty or disordered. Fill me with Your creativity and peace. Help me to see the world and myself through Your eyes. Let me live today with a deep awareness that You are near and still moving. Amen.
