The King Who Came Low

Mar 30, 2026

Scripture: Matthew 21:8–9

Jesus enters Jerusalem not on a war horse, but on a donkey. The crowd shouts “Hosanna,” celebrating Him as King, yet many misunderstood the kind of King He came to be. They were expecting rescue on their terms. Jesus came to bring something deeper, something eternal.

There’s a tension here that still exists in us today. We want Jesus to fix things quickly, visibly, powerfully. But He often comes gently, humbly, in ways that require us to slow down and recognize Him. The same crowd that praised Him would later turn away. It reveals how easy it is to celebrate Jesus when He meets expectations, and struggle when He doesn’t.

This day invites us to examine our hearts. Are we welcoming Jesus as He truly is, or only as we want Him to be?

Reflective Questions:

1. Where might I be placing expectations on God instead of trusting His way?

2. Do I recognize Jesus in the quiet, humble moments of my life?

3. What does it look like for me to truly welcome Him today?

Prayer:

Jesus, help me to see You clearly. Not through my expectations, but through truth. Teach me to welcome You as King, even when You move differently than I hoped. Shape my heart to trust Your way over my own.

Action Step:

Take 5 minutes today to sit in silence and simply invite Jesus in, without asking for anything.
