Faith Proven By Fire

Aug 13, 2026

Read: 1 Peter 1:6–7

“These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold…” 1 Peter 1:7 NLT

There is purpose in the process. Peter describes faith being tested like gold passing through fire. Trials don’t automatically make us stronger, but when suffering drives us toward God, He can use it to deepen and strengthen our faith.

Sometimes our instinct is to ask, “Why am I going through this?” But God may be inviting us to ask:

“Who am I becoming through this?”

The fire can teach us dependence.

It can teach us to pray differently. It can strip away distractions. It can reveal what we’ve placed our confidence in. It can bring us closer to God in ways comfort never could.

The goal isn’t to celebrate suffering itself. The goal is to recognize that suffering does not have to be wasted.

When we seek Him in it, even the fire can become holy ground.

Reflect:

Has there been a difficult season in my life that ultimately brought me closer to God? What did He teach me there?

Prayer:

Father, I don’t always understand why You allow certain seasons, but I trust that You can use them. Let this process deepen my faith instead of hardening my heart. Draw me closer. Refine what needs refining and strengthen what You have placed inside me. Amen.

Today’s Action:

Instead of only praying for God to change your circumstances today, ask: “God, how do You want to change me through this?”
