When God’s Will Disrupts Mine

Jul 31, 2025

Scripture:

Luke 22:42

"Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine."

Devotional:

There comes a point in every believer’s life where God’s will collides with our own—and we have to choose. Jesus faced that moment in the garden. He knew what obedience would cost Him. But instead of clinging to comfort, He surrendered to the will of the Father. That kind of surrender isn’t easy. It hurts. But it leads to resurrection.

Sometimes we say we want God’s will, but deep down, we want it on our terms. We want His blessing without the pruning, the calling without the cost. But real transformation often requires discomfort. The Holy Spirit doesn’t just guide us to peaceful places—He leads us through refining ones. And when we let Him disrupt our plans, we discover that His will isn’t just better, it’s perfect.

Reflective Questions:

1. Have I been resisting God’s will in any area of my life out of fear or discomfort?

2. What is God asking me to lay down that I’m still holding tightly to?

3. Do I trust that obedience—even when it hurts—leads to something greater?

Prayer:

Jesus, thank You for modeling what surrender really looks like. I confess there are things I want my way, and it’s hard to let go. But I believe Your will is good. Teach me to trust You even when it’s uncomfortable. Holy Spirit, help me to say “yes” when everything in me wants to say “not yet.”

Action Step:

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal one area where your will and God’s will are at odds. Choose today to take one step of obedience in that area—even if it’s small.
