Power From The Presence
Scripture:
“Do not quench the Spirit.”
1 Thessalonians 5:19
Devotional:
Pastor Steve reminded us that many believers want to show power, but few truly learn to receive it. That’s because real spiritual power doesn’t start in what we do — it starts in who we’re connected to. The Holy Spirit wasn’t given so we could perform for God; He was given so we could walk with God.
The early church moved in power because they guarded His presence with humility, obedience, and tenderness. Their strength didn’t come from volume, activity, or spiritual “impressiveness.” It came from the quiet, surrendered places where the Holy Spirit had full access to their hearts. Power is simply the overflow of presence.
When we quench the Spirit — by rushing, resisting, or relying on ourselves — we block the very power we’re praying for. But when we welcome Him fully, even in the simple, everyday moments, His power begins to shape us from the inside out. That is where the divine weapon of the Spirit becomes real.
Reflection Questions:
1. Am I more focused on appearing strong than staying surrendered?
2. Where might I be quenching the Spirit without realizing it?
3. How can I make room for the Holy Spirit today?
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, help me choose presence over performance. Soften my heart, slow me down, and awaken me to Your voice. Let Your power flow through my surrender.
Action Step:
Take one intentional pause today and ask, “Holy Spirit, what are You saying right now?” Let Him lead before you move.
