Experiencing God’s Presence in Every Season
READING:
1 John 3:19–24
DEVOTIONAL:
In a world full of noise and distraction, it’s easy to be deceived into thinking that God is distant—especially when we don’t “feel” Him. The enemy often whispers lies in our lowest moments:
“God left you.”
“You're too far gone.”
“You’re not spiritual enough to hear Him.”
But John reminds us of something deeper than emotion: God’s presence is a promise, not a feeling.
Even when our hearts condemn us or when we feel spiritually dry, God is greater than our hearts (v.20). His Spirit reassures us, not just when we’re on a spiritual high, but in the valleys too.
The deception many of us fall into is believing that if we can’t sense Him, He must not be near. But God's presence isn't measured by your mood—it's grounded in truth.
We experience Him as we walk in love, obey His commands, and remain in communion with Him—not because we are perfect, but because He is faithful. Whether you’re in a season of joy or weariness, the truth is this: God abides in you. He is not absent. He is not waiting for you to be better or more “on fire” to show up. He is here. Right now.
QUESTIONS:
1. Have I equated God’s presence with my emotions? What truth from Scripture can I hold onto when I don’t feelHim close?
2. What lies have I believed about God's nearness in times of failure, dryness, or doubt? Where did those lies come from?
3. What small, daily moments have I overlooked where God may have been revealing Himself to me? How can I become more aware of His presence in the mundane?
PRAYER:
Lord, thank You that Your presence is not based on my feelings, but on Your truth. Forgive me for the times I’ve believed the lie that You were distant or silent. Open my eyes to see You in every moment—in joy and sorrow, in strength and weakness. Help me to walk in love and obedience, not to earn Your nearness, but because I already have it. Let Your Spirit reassure me when my heart grows faint. I want to live today aware of You—abiding in me, and I in You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
