Holy Spirit: Be Led by His Spirit, Not the Storm
READING:
- Romans 8:14–17 (NLT)
“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, ‘Abba, Father.’”
DEVOTIONAL:
When life gets stormy—when plans fall apart, people disappoint, or unexpected hardship hits—it’s easy to slip into survival mode. We brace ourselves. We react. We try to figure things out on our own. But that’s not the life we’ve been given.
Paul reminds us in Romans 8 that we have not received a spirit of slavery or fear. We don’t have to default to reacting in anxiety or desperation. We have received the Spirit of adoption, and that changes everything. This Spirit doesn’t drive us with fear—He leads us with confidence and identity.
To be Spirit-led is not about constant clarity on what's next; it’s about constant connection to the One who is already there. It means choosing to respond with faith rather than fear, because you're not just a believer—you’re a beloved child of God. That identity anchors you when nothing else makes sense.
The Spirit leads gently but powerfully—nudging, comforting, correcting, strengthening. He doesn’t push or pressure. He reminds you that you belong. That you’re held. That you’re already loved, even before you perform. And when you let Him lead, even the storm doesn’t shake your foundation.
QUESTIONS:
1. In what ways has fear subtly shaped my definition of success, safety, or control?
2. If I fully embraced being led by the Spirit and am not a slave to fear, what practical changes would I need to make in how I approach this current season?
3. Do I recognize the Spirit’s leading in my daily life—or am I more familiar with the voice of urgency, pressure, or self-protection? How can I shift that perspective?
PRAYER:
Abba, Father, thank You that I am not a slave to fear or chaos. I’ve been adopted into Your family, and You’ve given me Your Spirit—not to burden me, but to lead me. Teach me to stop reacting out of panic and instead respond out of peace. Remind me that storms don’t get the final word—Your presence does. Holy Spirit, lead me today. When I’m tempted to run ahead or shrink back, help me to slow down and trust that You are with me, guiding me step by step. My life is not random—it’s rooted in You. I’m not lost—I’m loved. Amen.
