The Work of the Field

Sep 23, 2025

Scripture:

“The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more.”

Matthew 25:16

The servant who received five talents didn’t wait until the conditions were perfect. He didn’t sit around making excuses. He “went at once” and began to work. This is the posture God calls us into: urgency, not delay. There’s a field before us, and the harvest doesn’t wait forever.

In the Kingdom, “someday” is often the enemy of obedience. We wait until life slows down, until we feel qualified, until we think we have more resources. But the servant multiplied because he started with what he had, right away. The harvest is not about having it all together - it’s about being faithful with what’s in your hand today.

Reflection Questions:

1. Where have I been delaying obedience to what God has already asked me to do?

2. What excuses have I made that keep me from stepping into the field?

Prayer:

Father, give me courage to act today, not tomorrow. Remove the excuses and stir urgency in my spirit. Teach me to put my hand to the plow and trust You with the results. Amen.

Action Step:

Choose one area of delayed obedience. Today, take a first step “at once”—whether that’s making the phone call, signing up to serve, reconciling with someone, or sharing your faith.
