Pray In The Spirit
Scripture:
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.”
Ephesians 6:18
Devotional:
Paul’s first instruction for going on the offensive is simple yet powerful: pray in the Spirit. The Greek word proseuchomaimeans “to supplicate — to ask earnestly.” Prayer is the moment your armor actually goes to work. You can know all the right things, wear all the armor, and still stay on the sidelines if you never enter the battle through prayer.
Praying in the Spirit means aligning your will with God’s will — not praying from the flesh, where our selfish desires and limitations dwell, but praying in unity (magkaisa) with the Father. When you pray in the Spirit, you’re praying from the place of oneness that Jesus spoke of in John 17 — where He and the Father are one, and He desires that same unity with you.
Reflect:
1. Do I often pray from my emotions or from the Spirit’s leading?
2. How can I become more aware of the Holy Spirit’s guidance when I pray?
3. What does unity with God in prayer look like for me personally?
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, teach me to pray beyond myself. Align my heart with Yours and help me to walk in oneness with You. I want my prayers to move heaven, not just echo my feelings. Remind me daily that true strength is found when I pray in You.
Action Step:
Before you begin your day, pause for 3 minutes and ask, “Holy Spirit, how do You want me to pray today?” Write down what comes to mind and pray accordingly.
