A Lifestyle of Gratitude
Scripture:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6
Devotional:
Gratitude isn’t just a feeling — it’s a spiritual posture. When Paul says “with thanksgiving, present your requests to God,” he’s teaching us that gratitude is meant to sit at the front of our prayers, not behind them. Before we ask anything, we remember everything God has done.
Thanksgiving reminds your heart:
God has provided before — He will provide again.
It breaks the cycle of anxiety by shifting your focus from what you can’t control to the God who can. When you thank Him in the middle of uncertainty, you’re declaring that His faithfulness is stronger than whatever you’re facing.
Gratitude is not denial. It doesn’t pretend everything is perfect. It simply chooses to recognize God’s goodness in the middle of what’s not. It anchors your heart. It strengthens your faith. And it makes room for God’s peace to settle in your life.
Reflect:
1. What am I trusting God for going into December?
2. Where do I need His peace today?
3. What can I thank God for before I see the answer?
Prayer:
God, thank You for being steady and faithful. Thank You for everything You’ve carried me through this year. Help me to come to You with thanksgiving first, trusting that You are working in every situation. Fill my heart with Your peace today. Amen.
Action:
Start a “gratitude note” in your phone. Try to keep track and log weekly, and watch your perspective shift.
